Our Founder
Tyehimba Jelani is the Chief Visionary Officer and founder of Tyehimba & Associates which was founded in 2009. Armed with the vision of providing financial education, non-profit consulting and event management services for organizations --- “when reputation matters most”, he formed the organization to reduce the fiscal education gap in his beloved community of Oakland, California.
A Bay Area native, Tyehimba has proudly resided in Oakland for nearly 25 years. He is an alumnus of Berkeley High School and California State University-East Bay, where he served as an Alumni Association Board Member.
Tyehimba’s earlier years as an undergraduate fueled his interest and commitment to community involvement with memberships in the Black Student Union and with the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). After obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting, Tyehimba was elected for two terms, as the President of the San Francisco Professional Chapter of NABA.
The training as an undergraduate student and his professional career have been rewarding for Tyehimba. He realized his unique ability to connect with young people while serving as Executive Director for LIFE Courses, Inc. (LIFE), an Oakland-based non-profit organization that he co-founded in 2011. In this role, Tyehimba and his LIFE Courses colleagues were able to successfully launch its annual offering, the Youth Education Conference (YEC).
While shifting his focus to provide financial education to a broader audience, his overall mission remains the same. Tyehimba is committed to provide practical approaches to financial education. He and Tyehimba & Associates Consulting are well-positioned to provide fiscal management information to audiences of all ages to strengthen Oakland and the surrounding communities.
