    Participants are introduced to the importance of creating a working budget, establishing savings goals, becoming familiar with the variety of available banking options, using credit as a tool for leveraging finances and basic investing related concepts. Tyehimba has over 20 years of experience delivering personal financial literacy content to students and parents.

    In this session, students will gain valuable insight needed to make well-informed decisions when evaluating between community colleges, the CSU, the UC, private colleges, for profit institutions as well as HBCUs. Yolanda has 30+ years of advocacy in higher education and currently serves as Articulation Officer at Mission College.

    Financial Aid: The Real Story!

    Participants will receive insight on successfully navigating the financial aid process, best practices when initiating the Financial Aid application (FAFSA) and identifying other sources of funding (educational grants, scholarships, work-study, etc.). Jada holds a Masters in Mathematics and is currently a Data Analyst at the UCSF Geriatrics Department and is the CFO & Co-Founder of Jasiri Coder LLC, jasiricoder.com.

    This session takes a relatable, yet sensitive approach to emphasizing the importance of preparing for the passing away of our loved ones and provides participants with guidance on using the necessary tools (wills, trusts, life insurance, etc.) to seamlessly exchange finances and/or belongings to surviving family members at the time of final arrangements. Maisha Cole is a licensed Attorney in California and former UC Berkeley Freshman Application Reader.
